The West Africa embarks on eco friendly lighting

Avoid wasting electricity - a rare commodity in Africa - this is the objective of the agreement signed in July in Dakar (Senegal), the governments of the Economic Community of African States of the West (ECOWAS). The text approved by the fifteen countries provides for the phasing out of incandescent eco friendly lighting.

"This new site is an additional step to find solutions to the structural problems of supply in the region and includes two components. Energy efficiency but also the development of green energy and eco friendly lighting," said Ibrahim Soumaila expert at the Center for Energy renewable and energy efficiency of ECOWAS.

The West African project, which was launched in October 2012 in Accra (Ghana), is sponsored as many others in the world by the initiative "en.lighten" Program.
